1  Public business ordered to be held at house of Robert
   Brooks on Land Lot 20 in 23rd District.

2  Be it ordered that the 16th District of formerly Muscogee
   Co, now Talbot, be a Captain district and known as #1,
   the Dist 22 south of the South Mountain form a district
   #2. That part of the 1st & 2nd of formerly Troup Co now
   Talbot & 22 and 23rd district lying between 2 mountains
   be a district #3. That part of the 1st District of
   Troup Co south of the South Mountain and the balance of
   the 23rd District of Talbot form a district #4, and the
   24th & 25th district form a district #5. Feb 14 1828.

3  In chambers ordered that the public business of Talbot Co
   be transacted in Talbotton in sd Co and that the Clerk of
   the Inferior Court of sd Co give due notice of the same
   in the Macon Telegraph & Georgia Journal in Millidgeville
   and that the town of Talbotton, on lot #26, 16th District
   of sd Co.

4  It also ordered that William S. Goss be the Clerk of the
   Court of Ordinary for Talbotton with the annual election
   for sd officer.

5  Be it also ordered that the county seat of Talbot Co be
   known and called Talbotton.

6  Also ordered that the town lots in Talbotton be sold on
   the first Tuesday in May next on the premises and the
   Clerk of the Inferior Court run notices in the Georgia
   Journal in Milledgeville and the Macon Telegraph.

7  I William Goss so solemnly swear that I will execute the
   office of Clerk of the Court of Ordinary for said County
   during my continuance in office to the best of my abili-
   ries and understanding. 7 April 1828. William S. Goss.

8  Ordered John E. Disharoon to be the County Treasurer and
   his giving bond for $10,000.

9  William McMurray to be the surveyor of the town of Tal-
   botton. To be paid $1 for each lot surveyed.

10 I, William McMurray do solemnly swear that I will execute
   the office of surveyor of said County during my service
   in office to the best of my abilities and understanding.

11 Colonels election for Talbot Co to be held 1st Monday in
   May next at the County Court house.

12 Ordered that the building of a temporary courthouse will
   be let to the lowest bidder 1st Monday of next May.

   Court adjourned 7 April 1828.

13 Ordered John E. Disharoon, Henry Mims & William Wimberly
   Esq., to appointed to survey and find the most practical
   route for a public road from Talbotton to the Flint River
   the nearest and best way to Macon, intersecting the pub-
   lic road leading to that place and report the utility of
   the same forthwith.

14 I, John E. Disharoon do solemnly swear that I will dis-
   charge the duties of office of County Treasurer to the
   best of my abilities and understanding. 6 May 1828.

15 Ordered Roger McGrath, John Fleming, Esq., and Lodwick
   Mathew be appointed commissioners to appoint overseers
   and open the road leading from Gibson's Ferry to Dark's
   to William C. Osborn's through the 22nd Dist and that
   Peter Davis, David A. Perryman and Washington Stem be
   appointed in like manner through the 22nd  Dist and 17
   th Dist, pursuing the old trail. (This entry is crossed
   out, and written underneath, this is order #60.)

16 Also ordered that John Fleming, Roger McGrath & Jonas
   Rountree be appointed to survery & report the best route
   for a road leading from Dark's Ferry to the Falls of the
   Chattahoochee so far as the ---as of the 23rd Dist from
   Gibson's Ferry intersecting at the most convenient place
   between the 2 ferries at the Mill Shoal Creek or Four
   Mile Creek the above fees to be established at the fol-
   lowing rates.

17 Also ordered that John T. Booth, William Rushin & Abraham
   be appointed to survey layout and report a road from Tal-
   botton to Calhoun's Ferry on Flint River the nearest and
   best way and that the said ferry be established at the
   following rates:

   Man & horse        .0625       Road wagon              .50
   Rig                 .25         Pleasure 4 whl carriage.50
   Wagon               .25         Hogs, all kinds
   Ox cart            .25             of Stock, each      .01

18 Ordered that William Booth, John Tamplin & Richard B.
   Rucker be appointed to survey and layout a road from
   Talbotton to Williamson's Ferry on the Flint River, the
   nearest and best route and report on the same and rates
   of the ferry as above.

19 Ordered that Richard B. Rucker, Esq., John Tamplin and
   William Booth be appointed to survey road from Talbotton
   to Hooten's Ferry on Flint River-rates of ferry as above.

20 Thomas Moore, Esq., John C. Boynton & James Averitt be
   appointed to survey and layout road from Talbotton to
   Gordon's Ferry on the Flint River, the nearest and best
   route and report the same. Rate of the ferry as above.

21 Ordered Jesse Carter, Reuben Aldridge and Peter Davis,
   Esq. appointed to survey & layout a road from Talbotton
   to the Harris County Court House, the nearest and best
   route and report the same.

22 Ordered William McKenney, William Hardison and Isaac B.
   Welch, Esq., be appointed to survey and layout a road
   from Talbotton to the fork of the Chattahoochee inter-
   secting the Calhoun Ferry line at or near the corner of
   Talbot Co in the 17th Dist and report the same.

23 Ordered Robert Denean, Esq., James P. Portis and Hartwell
   Battle be appointed surveyor to lay out and examine the
   best and nearest route from Talbotton to Meriwether Court
   House and report the same.

24 Ordered that Absolem Irwin, Wright Sherrard, Esq., and
   John Chambers be appointed surveyors to examine the best
   route for a road leading from Robert's Ferry on the Flint
   River intersecting Dark's & Gibson's Ferry road at or
   near Mill Shoaal Creek, also a road from the same ford
   intersecting the Talbotton and Meriwether Road, near
   Chambliss'.

25 Ordered Abraham Laurence be appointed guardian for Will-
   iam George & Joe Allen Collins, illegitimates in terms of
   the law.

26 Ordered James P. Portis be appointed guardian for William
   Gasaway Portis, the son of James P. Portis.

27 Ordered George W. B. Towns be appointed to receive notes
   and give bonds agreeable to direction to him given for
   the several lots sold the Town of Talbotton, and return
   the same on next court date, May 6 1828.

27 Ordered that $25 be appropriated for the purpose of pay-
   ing for stationery and the County Treasurer pay said
   account.

28 Ordered County Treasurer pay the Clerk of the Inferior
   Court $25 out of the monies in hand to purchase station-
   ery for the County.

29 Ordered County Treasurer pay William McMurray $60 for
   surveying the Town of Talbotton.

30 Ordered John P. Blackmon, M. W. Perry and John Pratt paid
   wages of $260, it being the amount due in account of the
   date sold in the County of Talbot 6 May 1828.

31 County Treasurer ro pay William Gittich $354 on a note
   given of the JIC's of Talbot County for a lot of land
   appropriated for the County 6 May 1828.

32 Ordered that John Fleming, Esq., Roger McGrath & Lodwick
   Mathews appointed commissioners to open the road from
   22nd Dist through the 23rd Dist to Dark's Ferry across
   Lazar Creek on Lot #45.

33 Ordered that Seaborn Thomas, Peter F. Mahone and Thomas
   Moore, Esq., be appointed to open and ---the Alabama Road
   from Gibson's Ferry to the line of the 22nd Dist.

34 Entry crossed out.

35 Ordered that Peter Davis, David A. Perryman and Jesse
   Carter be appointed commissioners to open the Dark's
   Ferry road through the 22nd Dist and reaching the County
   line of Harris Co at lot #180 in the 7th Dist so as to
   intercept the road from Harris Co appointed ordered for
   said road.

36 Ordered commissioners of 23rd Dist or a majority of them
   sell to the lowest bidder the building of a public bridge
   on Lot #45 in the 23rd District across Lazar Creek. The 
   bridge to be built above the high water mark, warranted
   to stand for 5 years. The undertaker to give bonds with
   sufficient security to the Justices.

38 Ordered that Henry McKinney, George Williams, Isaac B.
   Welch, Esq., be appointed commissioners to open a public
   road from Talbotton to the corner of the 17th through the
   Co by way of Hardison and Lot #4 in the 17th Dist, to
   intersect Moore's & Johnston's Road the best way and they
   appoint an overseer and proportion the land in terms of
   the law.

39 Ordered that Hartwell Battle, H. Griggs & Thomas C.
   McDowell, Peter Davis, Esq., be appointed commissioners
   to lay out a road from Talbotton through the 22nd Dist
   in a direction to the Courthouse in Meriwether Co and
   appoint an overseer and proportion the lands on the said
   road.

40 Ordered John P. Blackmon, JIC, John Fleming, Esq., and
G.  W. B. Towns be appointed commissioners to survey and
layout a road in a direction from Talbotton to Meriwether
Courthouse through the 23rd District and report the same.

41 Ordered that John Fleming, Esq., Robert Brooks and Will-
   aim Harvey be appointed to survey and examine the best &
   most convenient road through the 23rd District so as to
   intersect the Dark's Ferry Road in Lot #45 in 22nd Dist
   and report the same.

42 The 2 Jan 1828, M. W. Perry, JIC, John Pratt, JIC, John                    
   P. Blackmon, JIC.

   Ordered John Fleming, Esq., Roger McGrath, Francis Roun-
   tree be appointed district commissioners for 4th District
   as constituted by the Inferior Court.

43 Ordered Henry McKinney, Henry Mims and Isaac B. Welch,
   Esq., be appointed commissioner for Capt. Huff's Dist.

44 Jesse Carter, David A. Perryman, Peter Davis appointed
   commissioners for 688 District GM and will allow in terms
   of the law to appoint workers and proportion the hands in
   said district.

45 Ordered commissioners of 688 District to open a public
   road from the line of their district to the County line
   in the direction to Harris County Courthouse as blazes
   made by Ruben Aldridge.

46 Ordered the commissioners of Captain Huff's District have
   opened the road from Talbotton in the district intersect-
   ing the one from the district line to Harris County Court
   house as laid out by Ruben Aldridge, John Carter and
   Peter Davis, Esq.

47 Ordered that the commissioners of District 2 to cause the
   roads opened through the district as surveyed by Hartwell
   Battle, Henry Griggs, & Peter Davis, Esq.

48 Ordered the commissioners of District 3 cause the roads
   opened as surveyed by Hartwell Battle and others.

49 Ordered the commissioners of District 4 cause the roads
   opened through land district intersecting the survey made
   by Peter Davis Road.

50 On motion ordered the commissioners of District 4 be di-
   rected to cause the road opened from the bridge on Lazar
   Creek to the district line of the 16th District, in a
   direction to Talbotton.

51 Ordered that Jeremiah Bassett, Samuel Hanson and Thomas
   Moore, Esq. be appointed to lay out and mark the best
   route for a public road from the bridge on Lazar Creek to
   Land Lot #30, 23rd District so as to intersect the survey
   made by James P. Porter & others, through the Valley Dis-
   trict and report the same.

52 Ordered the commissioners of Dist 3 be directed to open
   the road from Land Lot #81 in Dist #1 Troup Co to LL #30,
   23rd Dist through the Valley District.

53 Ordered that there be a public road leading from the ford
   of Flint River above Gorden's Ferry through the Valley in
   a direction to Columbus until it strikes the old Alabama
   Road leading, (surveyed) by Chambless, Bassees and Goss.

54 Ordered there be a public road leading from Talbotton to
   Calhoun's Ferry on Flint River, pursuing the blazes and
   marks made by Abraham Laurence and John T. Booth, Esq.

55 Ordered there be a public road leading from Hooten's
   Ferry on Flint River to intersect with the road leading
   from Williamson's Ferry to Talbotton as appears by the
   blazes and marks made by John Tamplin and Richard R.
   Rucker, Esq.

56 On motion, it is ordered that Robert Duncan, John D.
   Chambless and James Greer be district commissioners for
   Captain Harold's District in compliance with the law.

57 Ordered the district commissioners of Captain Harold's
   District cause the roads opened from LL#30, 23rd Dist a-
   ccording to the survey made by Robert Duncan and James P.
   Portis.

58 Ordered William Mahone, Peter Davis, Esq., and James
   Hamell be appointed surveyors and examine the prospect
   for a public road from the Dark Ferry Road at or near
   Peter Davis' to the gap in the Pine Mountain on LL #172 &
   173, 23rd Dist and report the same to the next court.

59 Also ordered that John Marlial, George Minefee and Thomas
   Moore, Esq., be appointed surveyors to examine the pract-
   icality and utility of a public road fron LL #285, 23rd
   Dist to Jackson's Ferry, from there to Talbotton.
60 Committee of D. A. Perryman, P. Davis, Esq., J. Carter,
   Roger McGrath, John Fleming and Loderick Mathis appointed
   to set to it that the old Alabama Road is opened through
   the 23rd District.

61 Peter Davis, Esq., Jesse Livingston, Thomas C. McDowell,
   Jesse Carter be appointed commissioners to open and
   straighten the old Alabama Road from the 23rd Dist line
   through the 22nd Dist ..pursuing the old road as near as
   practical, and Roger McGrath, Loderick (Mathis) & John
   Fleming be appointed in the 22nd Dist in like manner.

62 Ordered that Peter Davis, David A. Perryman, and Jesse
   Carter connection of the 22nd & 19th Dists have opened
   the Dark Ferry Road forthwith through said Dist commenc-
   ing on LL #14 in 23rd Dist, through the district to LL#
   181 in the 17th Dist, where it strikes the County line..
   as surveyed by Peter Davis, David A. Perryman and James
   Perryman.

63 Ordered that John T. Booth, Josiah Mathews and Abraham
   Laurence be appointed surveyors to view and mark the
   district for a road from Booth's Ferry on Flint River
   to Abraham Laurence's on the Calhoun Ferry Road and re-
   port the utility of the same.

64 Ordered John T. Booth, Esq., Jeremiah Mathews and Abraham
   Laurence be appointed district commissioners for the 24th
   and 8th Dist of this County.

65 Ordered William Snellings, M. Fulton and Isaac B. Welch,
   Esq., be appointed surveyors to survey a route from Tal-
   botton in a direction to Columbus.

66 This number is skipped.

67 Ordered Littleton C. Pearson, William Booth and William
   Brooks be appointed surveyors to survey and report a road
   from Sockwell's Ferry on Flint River to the County line
   in a direction to Ft Perry.

68 Ordered that there be a public road leading from Talbot-
   ton to Gorden's Ferry on Flint River following the marks
   and blazes made by Thomas Moore, Esq., and John C. Boyn-
   ton, and that the district commissioners cause said road
   opened.

69 Ordered John Fleming, Esq., James Beasley and Roger
   McGrath be appointed surveyors to examine the utility of
   a public road from Roger McGrath's intersect the Alabama
   Road at or near James Beasley's in the 23rd Dist and re-
   port the utility of the same.

70 Ordered the commissioners of the 23rd Dist or Captain
   Grant's District cause the road opened from the public
   road on Lazar Creek, LL #30 in 23rd Dist according to the
   survey made by Jeremaih Baind, Samuel Hanson and Thomas
   Moore, Esq.

71 Ordered the commissioners of the 22nd Dist or Captain
   Greene's cause the road opened from Robert's Ferry on the
   Flint River to LL #86, 23rd District so as to intersect
   the Columbus Road on said lot.

72 Ordered Thomas J. Bugg, William Wimberly, Esq., and Will-
   iam McMurray be appointed surveyors to mark the best
   route from the public square in Talbotton to intersect
   the Meriwether CourtHouse Road on the line of the 23rd
   Dist, also to meet the Harris County Road on the District
   line and report the same the next court.

73 Ordered the Clerk, William S. Goss, notify Jesse Carter
   that Henry Griggs has this day preferred charges against
   him as a defaulting commissioner on the Alabama Road and
   he has requested to make his excuse for the same..to be
   heard the 1st Monday in next month.

74 Ordered the Clerk, William S. Goss, notify Peter Davis
   and David A. Perryman, that Jesse Levingston has pre-
   ferred charges against them as defaulting commissioners
   on the Alabama Road. That they be requested to make
   excuse for the same according to law.., on the 1st Monday
   in next month. This 1 Sept 1828.

75 Ordered the County Treasurer be allowed the sum of 1% for
   receiving or collecting and the sum of 1% paying out  all
   monies received by him for the County of Talbot for the
   year 1828.

76 It is ordered that there be a public road leading from
   Talbotton to the District line of the 23rd intersecting
   the Meriwether Co Road at or near said line as marked by
   blazes made by Thomas J. Bugg and others.

77 Ordered there be a public road made leading from Talbott-
   on to the District line of the 19th Dist, intersecting
   the Harris Co road at or near as blazes made by Thomas J.
   Bugg and others.

78 Ordered that William S. Goss, the Clerk of the Inferior
   Court for Talbot Co be allowed the sum of .75 for each
   order as recorded by said Clerk as full compensation for
   extra services to this County, and the County Treasurer
   to pay said Clerk out of monies in his hands not other-
   wise appropriated.

79 Ordered there be a public road leading from Talbotton in
   a direction to Columbus as appears by the marks and
   blazes made by William Snellings, Welch & Tillum com-
   mencing with the Harris Co Road on LL# 26 in te 16th
   District then by said markers & blazes to lot #161 in
   17th District, and so on.

80 Ordered John B. Davis have indulgence for $50 it being
   the 1st payment for lot #5, Square D , until the 8th Feb
   next which the said Davis bought of Darling B. Allen.

81 Ordered that James Beasley be paid by the Co. Treasurer
   out of any monies in his hands not otherwide appropriated
   the sum of $50 for building a temporary Courthouse Judges
   seat, tables & benches.

82 Ordered the commissioners of the 17th District have open-
   ed a public road through the 17th Dist of said County on
   the District line as near as practical until they strike
   the road leading to Columbus.

83 Ordered that Darling B. Allen be appointed constable for
   685 District GM on his giving bond and sufficient securi-
   ty in the sum of $500 to the Judges of the Inferior Court
   of said County.

84 Ordered that Horace B. Ward, Esq. be appointed Notary
   Public for Talbot Co agreeable to law in such cases and

   The last sittings of the first Judges in Talbot Co. Wm S.
   Goss, Clerk.

85 Ordered that the sum of $20 be paid to the  widow of the
   late John McBryde ..or his ..to him for a County map of
   Talbot County.

   Present their honors Henry Griggs, William Snellings,
   Robert Brooks and Rubin Alridge, Judges of the Inferior
   Court for said County, 21 Feb 1829.

86 On motion ordered that all persons having business in the
   Inferior Court for County purposes or the Court of Ordi-
   nary, shall apply to the Clerk of said Court and have
   their names entered and their business shall come on
   agreeable to their names. No business but the business
   of each Court shall be brought only at its proper Court.

87 Its also ordered that the County Treasurer pay to Samuel
C.  Leech out of the money in his hands not otherwise ap-
propriated, $26 for 2 bound books, for Minutes of the Superior Court and Records of Declarations.

88 Ordered that the County Treasurer pay to John B. Davis
   $50 for 11 bound books.

89 Ordered Seabron Thom be appointed District Commissioner
   for Captain Green's District in place of Roger McGrath
   and that the commissioners in said district hold their
   commission for the present year.

90 Ordered that Levi Smith, Henry Mims and Willis Cox be
   appointed District Commissioners for Captain Hugg's Dist
   in lieu of the former commissioners for the present year.

91 Ordered the County Treasurer pay to George W. B. Towns
   $103.50 for the taking of 276 notes and giving 69 bonds
   to titles to lots in the Town of Talbotton.

92 Ordered County Treasurer pay George W. B. Towns $25 for
   attending to the 2 cases that he is now defending against
   said County.

93 Ordered that George W. B. Towns be the attorney for the
   County of Talbot in any collections he is to have 2.5% &
   to attend to all cases that may hereafter......

94 Ordered that George W. B. Towns to turn over all the
   notes and money in his hands belonging to the County of
   Talbot and all other monies that may come into his hands
   to the County Treasurer and that he take the County Trea-
   urer's receipt for the same and return to the Clerk of
   the Inferior Court.

95 Ordered that the Tax Collector of this County pay an ex-
   tax of one-fifth of the general tax for year 1828. This
   order invoked 23 March 1829.

96 Ordered that Levi Smith, Esq., John E. Disharoon and
   Leonard P. Breedlove be appointed the reviewers to review
   the utility of a public road from Talbotton to Calhoun's
   Ferry, the best route.

97 Ordered that William McMurry be appointed to take the
   Census of the County of Talbot for the present year or
   he comply with the law in such cases made and provided &
   he be allowed the usual fees for the same.

98 Ordered that on the first Monday next a bid be let to the
   lowest bidder in cleaning the Public Square.

99 Ordered the Clerk of the Inferior Court transcribe the
   old Minutes of said Court in a bound book and that Feb 21

Griggs, JIC,  Reuben Aldridge, JIC. William S. Goss, Clk.

100 March 2 1829. It is ordered that William R. Russell,
    Esq., be appointed one of the District Commissioners for
    Captain Harold's District.

101 Ordered the County Treasurer to pay William Hobbs the
    sum of $200.

102 Ordered that the bridge across Lazar Creek built by
    William Hobbs was received on 5 Decemner 1828.

103 Ordered the County Treasurer pay to William Hobbs the
    sum of $200 by 5 December 1829, and $200 by 5 December
    1830 for building a public bridge across Lazar Creek on
    lot #4, 23rd District.

104 It appears to the Inferior Court that J. D. Wilson being
    injured by the public road leading from Talbotton to
    Harris Co for remedy whereof.

105 Be it ordered that James Perryman, Peter Davis, Esq., &
    Darius Scott be appointed to review and report the util-
    ity of an alteration in the same.

106 Be it ordered there be a public road leading from Tal-
    botton in a direction to Calhoun's Ferry on Flint River
    as appears by blazes made by Disharoon, Smith and Breed-
    love.

107 Ordered County Treasurer pay Samuel C. Leech $20 for
    providing well bound books suitable for the Superior
    Court offices.

108 Ordered that Lemuel Cox, John T. Booth and William W.
    Burty be appointed reviewers for a public road leading
    from Hooten's Ferry to intersect with Calhoun's Ferry
    road at or near Mary Whalley's and report the same.

109 Ordered there be a public road running from Booth's
    Ferry intersecting with Calhoun's Road on LL# 9, 15th
    District.

110 Ordered William S. Goss, Doctor Wells and Samuel C.
    Leach be appointed to select the best shade trees in
    the Public Square, 50 of which to be left.

111 Ordered that 20% be posted on the personal tax for the                           
    political year of 1828 for County purposes and the Co
    Treasurer be notified to come forward and give honor and
    security.

112 Ordered there be a public road leading through 22nd
    District as per blazes made by William Myhand, James
    Howell and Peter Davis commencing at said Davis' and
    running across the old Alabama Road.

113 Ordered that purchasers of lots in the Town of Talbotton
    Talbot Co come forward and comply with the terms of said
    several taxes on their lots or the lots will again be
    offered for sale at private sale 1 April next.

114 Ordered Clerk of the Inferior Court give notice that
    there will be a sale of the unsold lots in Talbotton on
    15 October next in the Georgia Journal.

115 Ordered that Littleton Hooten have a bond executed to
    him for lot #16, Square A in his paying to the County
    Treasurer the sum of $3.12 1/2 , it being the one-eighth
    of the purchase money.

116 Ordered there be an alteration in the Harris County Road
    as appears by blazes made by David Scott & Peter Davis.

117 Ordered William M. Murray be paid by the County Treas-
    urer $52 as compensation for laying off the Town of
    Talbotton.

118 Ordered Clerk of Inferior Court give 20 days notice &

    from Talbotton to LaGrange commencing at the Talbot Co
    line on Lot #116 and to intersect the Hamilton Road on
    Lot #46, 22nd Dist. as per marks & blazes made by M.D.L.

163 Ordered Write Sherrard be and appointed district com-
    missioner in place of James L. Burks.

    cality of a public road from Talbotton to Sear's Store
    by the way of John E. Disharoon's old place in the 16th
    Dist. and report the same.

169 Ordered the County Treasurer to pay James Beasley the
    sum of $20 for the building of a public bridge across
    the Four Mile Creek at or near said Beasley's. Provided
    that the said Beasley give security with goods. Security
    in sum of $100 to keep in good repair the said bridge
    for the term of 5 years from this date, 13 March 1830.

170 Ordered the County Treasurer pay to Robert S. Mangrum
    the sum of $50 on Aug 1 for the keeping and maintaining
    of Ruth Arnold from this until Jan 1 next. Provided the
    said Mangrum gives his bond.

171 It is further ordered the County Treasurer pay to said
    Robert S. Mangrum the further sum of $25 on 1 Jan next
    for the using and ----of said Mary Arnold for the said
    space of until 1 Jan next.

    Bradford's Mill on Passalaqua as per marks and blazes

535 Ordered that a piece of ground be purchased for the pur-
    pose of erecting a hospital in some suitable place for
    the well.

536 Further ordered that the following persons be appointed
    and constitute a Board of Death for town of Talbotton:
    Cullen Mayo, Rene Fitzpatrick, M. A. Murdock, Mr Persons
    John B. Davis, Edward Deloney and Reuben Phillips with
    the power to suggest a report from time to time such
    arrangements as may be necessary to provide against the
    spread of smallpox.

537 Ordered that the stage drivers be requested to carry no
    persons through the town of Talbotton if there be any
    suspicions existing that bear they are laboring under
    the suspicion of smallpox.

538 Ordered that should any case of the smallpox occur in
    the town of Talbotton, the person in disease be carried
    to a desirable situation or the location which may be
    prepared for the hospital.

539 Ordered that John B. Smith, H. M. Osgood, William H.
    Glover, A. Laurence, J. T. Talley, L. Maddux be ap-
pointed a committee to make such investigations as may
guard against the introduction of the smallpox into this town by persons who may have been in the infected neighborhoods where the smallpox is existing both in Columbus and the neighborhood of Daviston or who may have regretfully labored under the disease and that such suspicious persons be reported to the Health Officers which will ----with order such situations as may be requisite & proper.

540 Order that the wearing apparel of the physicians &    
    nurses appointed to attend the cases of smallpox at
    --------- ------------then or shall or may occur be
    burnt as soon as they may be dismissed from such ser-
    vices and that they be required to swear under oath the
    value of such apparel.

541 Attending physicians must have a written application of
    their appointment.

542 Sheriff of Talbot Co appointed to carry the forgoing
    orders into execution.

543 Sheriff to be on working with Bailey C. Duke, Esq. under
    such regulations.
