TALBOT CO MARRIAGES 1828-1875 Please note this is an upgrade of our past on-line info, which were taken from various printed sources. Wishing to ensure that the information is as correct and complete as possible, plus expanding the database, we have gone directly to the microfilm of the original records, 1828-1875. You will find about 30 new marriages added that were previously omitted in other printed sources. It would be to your distinct advantage to thoroughly search the database, considering not only the various possible phonetic spellings of your surnames, the awareness of the recorder, the sharpness of his writing implement, AND, the abstracters familiarity of the county citizens names. Please do remember, if there was a different way to spell a name, someone, somewhere was going to do just that. You will note that up until the complete marriage record of March 4, 1841, that of William G. Johnson & Rebecca Castle-berry, the records only recorded the marriage itself, with no notation as to when the marriage license was obtained, or where. This marriage, was the first shown in Talbot Co, with the license info also shown on the record. On the microfilm, on 12 Jan 1844, with the marriage record of Thomas Webster & Mariah Bradwell, you will find the very first complete marriage showing up on a preprinted marriage form that included both the license and the certificate/ return. If you wish to verify any of the info below from the original microfilm, the marriages are loosely arranged by year only, so they are not in sequential order. Also bear in mind that they may well have been recorded up to a year or two after they were issued, thus throwing them off even more. Plus, there were a few marriages scattered here and there, not included within the specific date categories. **You will find quite a number of licenses issued after 1841 in Talbot Co, where no marriage record was recorded. This by no means the marriage did not take place. Those with no marriage record are indicated by ** behind the brides name. You will also find several marriages, that while the license was issued in the home County of the bride, as required by law, the marriage was performed in yet another County. From indications weve noted while researching these missing returns, you would do well to check neighboring counties for the missing record, rather than assuming the marriage did not take place. We found marriages that took place as far away as Screven Co and Richmond Co. There is at least one marriage license shown below, where the license was lost, but the neighboring Co Ordinary, as per law, reported the marriage as having taken place. In addition, there were several mistakes made in the Co Ordinarys office, with the marriage certification itself, being recorded on the incorrect marriage license! You will also find included, where we were aware of a difference in the spelling of the persons name on the license, in variance between what was shown on the marriage certificate. Mostly small phonetic variances, but, then, several that mirrored large & significant variances. We have tried to notate these for you below.
