The next Muscogee Genealogical Society meeting is scheduled for Saturday August 1, 2026, at the Columbus Public Library. Guest Speakers will be Mark and Denise Lumpkin of Rooted in the Wiregrass.

Mark and Denise Lumpkin of Gray, Georgia, have been married for more than 25 years
and share a lifelong interest in history, genealogy, and historic preservation. Together
they co-founded Rooted in the Wiregrass, a nonprofit organization dedicated to
rescuing, restoring, and preserving rural cemeteries, with a special focus on Georgia’s
Wiregrass region.

Through research, documentation, and hands-on restoration efforts, they work to
preserve neglected burial grounds and the stories of the people buried there. Their
passion for local history and family heritage has led them to help communities
reconnect with their past while ensuring these historic cemeteries are protected for
future generations.
