TICH2Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 3:00 pm, The Muscogee Genealogical Society will meet at Lummus Chapel in Historic Linwood Cemetery (721 Linwood Blvd., Columbus, Ga.). The topic will be “Today in Columbus History (TICH)” and will feature a few of the TICH writers, who will each share a couple of their most interesting posts.

“Today in Columbus History” is a series of short online posts about what was happening in Columbus on a certain day back i the 1800s. The series began in April 2020, at the start of the COVID pandemic, as a way to entertain and enlighten the public about Columbus history. Muscogee Genealogical Society members Daniel Bellware, Mimi Childs, Rachel Dobson, Linda McCardle and Callie McGinnis have written well over 200 short essays for the TICH project, which are available to Facebook members of the “Early Columbus Georgia and the Chattahoochee Valley” FB group. Series posts are also emailed to members and friends upon request.

TICH research focuses on Georgia Historic Newspapers project, available for free through GALILEO at https://gahistoricnewspapers.galileo.usg.edu. This searchable database covers early Georgia newspapers from the early 19th century to the early 20th. The Columbus papers are available from 1828 to 1890.

Enter the cemetery through the Chapel Gate (on Linwood Blvd., closest to 10th Ave.). Park on the grass around the chapel.

Light refreshments will be served. Free and open to the public. Call (706)322-3175 for more information.
